Thanksgiving down, Christmas on the way! I spent Thanksgiving with my sis and her family and even better than the relaxing day of football and turkey and pie is the departure at 5:30am the next day to go shopping :) This year there was no big search like we had in the past for the Wii, except for my sis looking for an iPod touch. I was hoping to get the big huge $300 Fur Real pony for $99 but I'm sure Toys R Us sold out of those when they opened at midnight on Thanksgiving :) And considering I had 99% of my Christmas shopping done already, I wasn't in search of much. But it was fun, and tiring and we were done and heading home by the time the mall started to get crowded. I do have to say there's always more of a satisfaction when you rise that early to get the hard-to-obtain item and you succeed.

Now to move on to decorating the house and figuring out what to do for the Christmas card :)

Got it!!   Third time's a charm  :)    A friend and I went to Borders yesterday for a clinic that started at 10am.  We got there at 9am and by 9:50 we were # 63 and 64 and were done.    So much for waiting for the right time for the clinic to start but I ain't complaining - I got mine.  Now I can begin obsessing over the swine flu shot  :)

Man, these things are hard to find!!   Both my kids got their shots back in September, and I had an appointment all lined up for me on October 23rd at my doctor's office.  I got a call a week and a half ago that my doctor's supplier cut him off and he wasn't get any vaccine.  So I've been hunting around for clinics so I could get one.  I've been to 2 (both in the same day) and the first one only had 40 vaccines - I mean, why bother advertising it?   Needless to say I didn't get one there.   And the 2nd one was at Costco and by the time I got there, 30 minutes after it started, there must have been 200 people in line.  Had I been there alone I might have waited and taken my chances, but waiting with a 6 year old on line, um, no way!    So now I've decided to wait until more vaccine gets shipped out....if that happens.

My kids got the swine flu shot yesterday - I think we just got lucky because none of my friends seem to be able to get it for their kids, and my kids are healthy with no health issues.    Maybe I'll just concentrate on getting the swine flu shot for myself - hunting down the flu shot is just taking up way too much of my time!
However, after the busy week I've had, a week of bedrest if I get sick while hubby takes care of the kids sounds enticing!   LOL

Ok, so I admit I was a little excited to watch last night.  I've gotten over my depression of SGA's demise, and figured, hey, it's a Stargate show and I've loved 2 of them, so why not this one.   Hmmmm, well, 2 hours later I turned off the TV and thought, "I MISS SGA!".   The one saving grace for me was Eli - at least we got some humorous lines, and some "wtf" moments, but this was so NOT like the Stargate fandom that I love.  What happened with the banter, the likeable and amusing characters, the immediate attraction to the hot lead guy (cuz I'm sorry, Scott just doesn't do it for me), and the last 2 BIG issues - what's up with the sex cuz that ain't Stargate and did they lose their funding for the electric bill?

I squinted throughout most of the show - way too dark - both literally and figuratively.  I lasted 6 eps into BSG and gave up trying to see.  And the flashbacks - how confusing was that?  And did anyone else get weird cuts to commercials?

I'll watch next week out of loyalty to the 2 shows that brought me so much pleasure in the past, but unless I start to care about the characters, I'll be watching repeats of NCIS on Friday nights.

You know, by the 2nd hour of Rising, I was already invested in what's happening with Sheppard, eager to see what the SGA peeps were up against and how it would end.   SGU - I'll definitely need to watch that "Previously on..."  next week - I'm not sure I'll remember a week from now.

Last night was the American Idols concert - yay!!   Kinda.   We got stuck in traffic looking to park, made it in time to the arena, got our official merchandise  :)   found our GREAT seats, and prepared to enjoy.   Michael Sarver was very good, Megan Joy sucked a big lemon, Lil Rounds was ok, Scott was good, Anoop was ok, Matt rocked, all ok but nothing wowed me.  That's ok, I was there to see Kris Allen and I knew I'd have to sit through everyone else to get there.   Intermission came, we went out to get beers and pee, and came back to our seats in time to see Kris walking out on stage - all lights were on, people are milling about, and he says.....he's too sick to perform tonight, his doctor advised him not to perform, and he's sorry, have a good night.....and he was gone!   I sat in shock - is he kidding?   Really?   He's not performing??   He wasn't kidding.   We got an awesome Allison, kickass Danny, superb Adam and that was it.   I didn't even get to enjoy those 3 because I was so upset Kris wasn't performing.   A day later and I'm still depressed.  I wanted to cry.   I have to content myself with fan vids from other shows while I wait for his CD to come out in November and keep my fingers crossed when he tours he's somewhere close enough to go see AND I can get tickets.

I do give him props for coming out on stage though and announcing it himself.   And from reports I've read, all the Idols are sick.   Adam twittered that he started running a fever after his performance last night.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Almost caught up!!    Season 7 airs in 2 weeks and I only have 8 more episodes to watch in Season 6 - yay me!!!     I've remained mostly spoiler free so I'm eager to finish and get ready for the new season.   And yes, I think I've found a show to love almost as much as SGA!   Now if I can only drag some of those superb SGA writers over to the NCIS fandom  :p

I just got back from a relaxing 2 week family vacation at my mom's house  in Florida and less than 24 hours later I'm completely stressed again.    Food shopping, kids fighting, hyper puppy, the house is a pigsty and completely in chaos, I have a pile of mail, I have 4 suitcases to unpack, my cleaning lady is coming tomorrow, the kids have camp in the morning AND in the evening, and I don't want to do any of it.

What I want to do is declutter my house, go shopping for fun house stuff, and give my home a complete makeover so it looks as beautiful and clean as my mom's house does, and is as relaxing.    All I need is money (ha!) and a month all to myself - no kids, no dog.   Sigh.    What's that expression....the needs of the family outweigh the needs of the mom?     LOL

And I survive another Relay For Life  :)    Another night of being up all night, laughing and enjoying the company of friends while sitting in a field in the damp night air, shivering with sweatshirts on, getting punchy and finding humor in every word uttered.    I feel like crap today but it was all worth it.   To see the cancer survivors walking around the track, listening to the stories of those who have suffered, fought back, and survived, knowing in our own little ways how we support them, the satisfaction of knowing all our hard work from the last year has raised substantial funds to fight cancer, this makes it all worthwhile!

This year I made new friends on the team, had tons of fun planning fundraisers and watching our team goal go up and up and up.   We set out to raise $10,000 this year and as of last night, our total for our team alone was $18,370!

Definitely worth it.

So last month hubby had surgery to repair his shattered cheekbone on our 16th wedding anniversary.    He finally decided it was time last night to go back to playing softball and since it was an early evening game on a Sunday, we all went to the game.  I haven't been to a game of his since our daughter was born and she's six now!    He was smart - he didn't field, just batted, and after the game, as he rummaged through his softball bag, he tells me "I lost my wedding band"!     So the month didn't end any better than the month began  :(

I found a new show to obsess over - yay me!!!!    Totally obsessed with NCIS - should I even bother to mention why?   Michael Weatherly!   Oh man!   HOT!   Why did I never watch this show?  I was a huge JAG fan, well, until the last season, although I did watch the series finale.

So here I am trying to catch up on 6 seasons, cuz I want to watch in order.  I have a friend who has the first 5 season on DVD - I'm halfway through Season 2, then I have to figure out how to get season 6 - guess downloading will work - all before season 7 starts.  There is a season 7 coming, right???

WOOT!!!     Kris Allen in the finals!!    My underdog made it!   Now all he has to do is beat Adam Lambert - I have faith!   The two are so different that it's gonna be a matter of who's watching and who's voting.   Did you see the judges last night when the results were announced?   Kara was shocked at Danny leaving - see, she tried to sabotage Kris with her song choice on Tuesday night - ha!  it failed!!

David Cook is still my Idol first love, but Kris is coming close   :)

Wow, what a month it's been!!    Two weeks ago I'm enjoying my relaxing Sunday morning, kids at religion class, hubby at softball practice and I get a call from hubby telling me he got hit in the face with a softball.   The ball took a bad hop right into his cheek.  He was at his brother's house with an icepack.   An hour later, I had the kids arranged for playdates and took hubby to the emergency room.   4 hours and a cat scan later, the doctor (actually a friend of ours) stopped by to let hubby know he fractured his cheekbone!   And we just wanted to rule out a concussion!    So doc said to make an appt to see him the next day, and he's schedule surgery.   The emergency room was jamming that day - over 60 people!  Doc didn't want to do the surgery that day in the hospital - he said it could wait so why deal with the hospital.   So next day off to see him, seems hubby fractured one bone and moved one out of place so it was hitting a nerve and not supporting the eye socket.    Surgery got scheduled for Friday.    Timing is everything - that Friday was also our 16th wedding anniversary!

Hubby stayed home all week - he had a huge shiner on his eye -you know, the type you want to see on your favorite TV character when they get whumped.  :)    My mom arrived from FL for a visit the Thursday night before - perfect timing so I didn't have to worry about bus schedules with the kids.   Friday morning we went to the surgical center, me prepared with multiple fanfics for reading  :)   Surgery took about 1 1/2 hours, turns out he shattered his cheekbone so he had to have plates and screws put in to hold the bones back in place.   The doctor had to make an incision under his eye, through the side of his head, and up through his mouth.  Yuck!     So hours later we're home with Percoset and an icepack.   And I must say, my hubby is an awesome patient!   I spent the week making scrambled eggs, oatmeal, smoothies and jello, and iced coffees.

Now he's back at work after missing 2 weeks, and you can barely tell he had surgery, except for the puckered line under his eye where the stitches are still dissolving.   I wonder how many more weeks until he goes back to playing softball - cuz you know men never learn!
Oh, and our 16th wedding anniversary......he got himself a nice set of titanium plates  :)

Wow, I'm surprised at the outcome of AI last night!   I thought Alexis Grace would be around for a long time, but wow, she didn't even make it to the top 10 for the tour!   And I didn't think she did the worse on Tuesday night.   Nor the judges apparently, since they did say they would Save her if she sang well.  Guess she didn't sing well.   And how did Michael Sarver feel after standing there with Alexis and hearing Simon say they had someone in mind for the Save if they were the one to go?  Obviously it wasn't Michael!

I could have handled Adam leaving - I just don't get the love for him.  He's screechy and just way too out there.  Heh, they could have had Nathaniel stay and it would have amounted to the same thing!!

Hearing that Kris made the top 10 was a air-punching moment!   My son thinks I'm just odd now after that!   Mom is no longer cool  :p

It occured to me at 1:30am on Tues night/Wed morning that I had forgotten to vote - I would have been upset if Kris had left this week, and my son would not have been pleased if Anoop went bye-bye.  Fortunately my vote wouldn't have saved the day - guilt feelings passed.  Well, at least for American Idol - I'm sure I can find guilt for a lot of other things!

So another week passes and we move on to Motown next week.  I wonder if Megan will sound the same and do her same little herky-jerky dance - she can't blame it on the flu this time.

Two down, 11 more to go!!   I can't say I'm sorry to see Jorge go - the guy's got a good voice, but I just couldn't watch him.  I had to listen to him with my eyes closed.   I feel bad for Jasmine though - but I think once she got to the top 12 (or 13) she just wasn't good enough.  But hey, she's young enough to come back again, and again, and again  :)

I'm really glad Kris stayed - he's a cutie!!   I got nervous when he and Megan got called up - just like when the top 12 were picked.  Think they thought of that - "we've been here together before!"

Right now I'm thinking it'll be Danny Gokey and Lil Rounds in the finale -but you never know with this show!

As for the new rule, sorry, I think it sucks!!   So someone, for instance, Jasmine, gets the lowest amount of votes - she's done.  But you can say, hey, America voted and sorry, see ya.   Who she gonna blame?   People didn't think she was good enough to call in and vote.  So she sings (which BTW, also annoys me because they've just been told they're not good enough to stay so sing the song which just cost you your spot in the show!), and after she sings, the judges get to say "Sorry, you still suck - see ya!"    So not only do they leave knowing America didn't vote for them, but the judges also get to verbalize their votes and send them packing.

Yeah, I know the whole American Idol experience is not for the weak of heart but still, they made it this far, it'd be nice to just let them leave knowing their votes just weren't enough.   Besides, doesn't it become more of a popularity contest?  Don't you vote for your favorite regardless of how they do each week?   I intend to vote for Kris each week until he leaves  :p

This week deserves a do-over!  It's been a doozy!   My daughter started with a fever last Saturday and by Monday I though, hmm, maybe we should have looked over by a doctor to rule out strep.   No strep, no ear infection, nothing to explain a high fever for 2 days.  But wait! let's do a flu test.   Ding ding ding ding ding - she's got the flu!  No school for the rest of the week, or at least until the fever goes away.  And considering she got a flu shot in November, the doc thinks the fever should only last 6-8 DAYS!    So now I"m home all week with a sick 6 year old  :(   Tuesday she was much better, by Wednesday no fever at all, but I keep her home, take her to art class in the afternoon and figure she'll be back to school on Thursday.  Until Thursday morning when she woke up with a 102 fever again.  And now she has a cough.  And the doc had said if a cough starts by Friday bring her back in.  So Friday morning back to the doctor, and explain how the fever went away, and now he listens to her chest and she has pneumonia!  He surmises that the flu went away, hence the lack of fever mid-week, and then she got pneumonia.  So now antibiotics are involved and he said she should be back to school on Monday.

Guess what we're getting Sunday night into Monday?   A snowstorm, with enough inches to have a potential snow day on Monday.

Shoot me now!

I sooooooooooooooo wanna go!!! For a week I've been going "seen Joe, met Joe, not a big deal if I don't meet him again" and then thinking "gosh, I want to see Joe again!" I about had a cow when I got the Creation email saying he was a guest at the Chicago con. I called [info]sherryw to tell her - she's thrilled - she already has her gold ticket for Chicago.  And last year I hemmed and hawwed over whether to have her buy me a Gold tix at the end of the con and I didn't!  If I had, then hubby wouldn't be able to tell me this year that we can't afford for me to go.   I mean, I know we can't afford it - we're so deep in credit card debt and the last thing I need is to add another $1K to the cards.  But it's Joe and it's [info]sherryw  and another good friend I really want to see  :(    And whumpers from GW going.  And all sorts of good things.  :(

But then it's also the weekend before school starts and god forbid I get delayed for some reason and don't make it back.  Last year when I went to NJ, my daughter started with severe separation anxiety weeks before I left - crying all morning about leaving me for afternoon kindergarten, throwing up at school, crying at school - it was awful!   So I really hate risking that as she heads into 1st grade.

And then there's all the reports coming out of Chevron Con in Bedford, England.  All those yummy scrumptious Joe and Jason reports!  I'm so envious of all the fans over there.  And glad they're having such awesome Joe moments!

 Sigh.

Does anyone else do that?  The first thing you say on the first day of the month is White Rabbit, which is supposed to bring you luck all month long.  I figure it can't hurt although remembering to say that first thing in the morning is quite a challenge!    Mostly my first words of any month are "go back to bed" "crap, I can't believe you won't stay in your bed" and "I'm not dealing with this all night!"   :)   But I remembered this morning so it's gonna be a good month, right?

It's gotta be better than January - pneumonia, strep, no heat and having both the oil company AND the plumber out to fix it, new car battery, both headlights going at the same time on hubby's car, and the springs on the garage door breaking.   ;)

And it's gone.  The heat.  We had a toasty overnight, a comfy morning, and now it's getting cold again.  The plumber just showed up - how's that for service?  I called at 8:15am and it's now 1:15 and they're working on the furnace.  While I was showing him the issues we learned about last night, the furnace did a shut off, turned on, and shut off 10 seconds later.  Again we have cold blowing air through the vents.  Back to the phone to the oil company and yay!  the phone got answered by our good friend who works there.  They're sending someone over as soon as the plumber is done.  Guess I have no excuse to not stay home and take down all the Xmas decorations still lingering around the place  ;)
